Cornish Mutual is a UK-based insurance company that provides various types of insurance services. They primarily focus on offering insurance products for farms, agricultural businesses, and rural communities in the South West of England, particularly in Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, and Dorset. Cornish Mutual is known for its mutual structure, which means it is owned by its policyholders, and its profits are often reinvested back into the company or returned to policyholders in the form of dividends or lower premiums.
The Cornish Mutual team required additional support and expertise to help with their sustainability goals and achieve carbon neutrality by 2030. They needed an sound understanding of their carbon footprint between reporting dates October 21 - September 22 in order to offset equivalent CO2e with a local offsetting partner Plant 1, a CIC dedicated to planting trees in Cornwall and Devon. Due to stakeholder obligations, it was important that emissions were captured accurately and published in a clear format to aid with commitments to reduce and remove emissions where possible.
Carbon Sense was able to quickly assist and support with the data capture of their direct emissions from operations, and record them accurately whilst embedding carbon accounting into their daily operations. This was achieved by using bespoke data capture templates and specialist carbon software to help record and communicate emissions monthly, quarterly and annually. It was vital that this process was embedded into the organisation, accurately and compliantly before moving on to Scope 3.
